All scholarships funded by the San Antonio Chapter of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association are made payable to the University of Alabama and managed by the University of Alabama Division of Advancement.

As of 2023, the chapter has generated more than $150,000 in endowed scholarship funds. Contributions to the University of Alabama are tax deductible. You may contact the Division of Advancement at 205-348-5370 for assistance in making gifts to the University.



Andrew William Palmer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Andrew William Palmer was born in San Antonio, Texas and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 2014. Andrew attended The University of Alabama with a Presidential Scholarship, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Andrew was inducted into to the Jason’s Society, a Greek men’s honors organization and earned a scholarship to enter The George Washington University School of Law in Washington, D.C. During his time at GWU Law he served on the Law Review and worked full time as an intellectual property student associate with Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP. Andrew graduated from GW Law in May 2022. He passed the patent bar exam and sat for the Washington, D.C. Bar exam in July 2022, which he passed posthumously. There is little question that Andrew was looking forward to a promising career as an intellectual property attorney.

While Andrew was driven academically and professionally, he also took care to prioritize his personal life as a son, a brother, a grandson, a cousin, and friend. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all forms of hunting and fishing with his family. Andrew’s drive for accomplishment also earned him the rank of Eagle Scout. Later in his young life he developed a passion for golf which he often played with his friends, father, and brother. Andrew was also passionate participation in the Sigma Nu Fraternity at The University of Alabama.  He was also “all in” on every event, especially the football games in the Fall. He loved his fraternity brothers. Further, his friendship was highly valued by those that knew him, as he was charismatic, and he loved friends and family fiercely.


William Alexander Gamble Endowed Scholarship

The William Alexander Gamble Endowed Scholarship was developed in 2019 to honor Alex Gamble. Alex was born in Montgomery, Alabama and spent his childhood in Mobile, Alabama. He attended UMS-Wright Preparatory School and Murphy High School in Mobile before relocating to Corpus Christi, Texas in his senior year, where he graduated from Mary Carroll High School. Alex had developed a love for the University of Alabama early in life through his visits to Tuscaloosa to spend time with family and friends and planned to attend the University.

San Antonio Texas Endowed Scholarship

The San Antonio Texas Endowed Scholarship was created in 2013 to support San Antonio students choosing to study at the Capstone. The endowed scholarship is awarded annually and has supported 9 freshmen enrolling at the University.

Avery Johnson Endowed Scholarship

The Avery Johnson Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 to honor University of Alabama Basketball Coach Avery Johnson. Prior to becoming the Crimson Tide’s basketball coach, Avery Johnson was head coach of the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets after spending 9 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. Johnson became beloved in San Antonio and was a member of the 1999 NBA Championship Team.
